Your Word is Truth

Your Word is Truth

Dear Friends,

This month’s Gospel readings all come from the Gospel according to St. John.  Themes of love and truth abound in these readings.  Each Sunday this month will involve something special.  May 6th is Confirmation Sunday.  May 13th is Mother’s Day.  May 20th is Pentecost.  May 27th is Trinity Sunday.  Remaining in the Word, remaining in God’s Love, and remaining in the truth makes each of these events a real celebration.

May 6th is Confirmation Sunday.  Four young people will publicly profess their faith and promise to remain faithful all life long.  They are Rylen Bettes, Hannah Doty, Paige Doty, and Matthew Villagomez.  The Gospel reading is John 15:9-17.  This makes a great theme for our confirmands and all of us as Jesus says, “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide.”

May 13th is Mother’s Day.  We thank God for mothers and all of the wonderful gifts He provides through them.  The Gospel reading is a part of Jesus High Priestly Prayer, John 17:11b-19.  Jesus asks the Father to sanctify us in the truth, His Word is truth.  Often it is our mothers that are the first teachers of that Truth to us.

May 20th is Pentecost.  We celebrate the giving of the Holy Spirit in all His fullness which marks the beginning of the Holy Christian Church on Earth.  The Gospel reading is John 16:4b-15.  Jesus promises the giving of the Holy Spirit.  Then He gives as a part of the Spirit’s work, that He will guide us in all truth, And that He would take what belongs to Jesus and declare it to us.  The Holy Spirit creates in us the faith through the truth of God’s Word.  That faith believes what the truth of God’s Word says, that our sins are forgiven and we are children of God all because of Jesus.

May 26th is Trinity Sunday.  We celebrate our God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  The Gospel reading is John 3:1-17. Jesus tells Nicodemus that to enter the Kingdom of God, one must be born from above, born of water and the Spirit.  Baptism brings us into the Kingdom of the God because the Father so loved the world He gave His only Son that all who believe in Him by the power of the Spirit will not perish but have eternal life.

As far as my health goes, I have just completed my first 28-day cycle of my new treatment.  I start(ed) the second cycle on April 30th.  I will receive an infusion that day and start my next 21 days of pills.  Then on May 14th another infusion.  On May 29th I will have a CT scan to see how successful the treatments have been to that point.  Please continue to keep me in your prayers.

God’s richest blessings during the month of May as He guides you in all truth by the power of His Spirit working through His Word to bring you the love of Jesus.
In Him,

Pastor Quinn
